State Pensioners Threaten Strike, Mass Protests over Alleged Flouting Of Directive

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Chapter, has threatened to disrupt academic and administrative activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, in Ogbomoso and the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, over the alleged refusal of their Managements to implement Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive on pension increases.

Addressing journalists at the Union’s State Headquarters in Agbarigo on Monday, the NUP State Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, said aggrieved retirees would begin daily mass protests from Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Abatan said the Union had also approached the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to declare a three-day warning strike across the two institutions to compel compliance.
