The Peoples Democratic Party and the Edo State All Progressives Congress are in conflict over the alleged theft of the Continuous Voter Registration initiative being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The registration exercise in Edo and Ondo states commenced on May 27 and was originally scheduled to conclude on June 5. INEC announced on Tuesday that the registration period would be extended until June 9.
The Edo APC had requested INEC to postpone the exercise before its commencement due to the flooding of the commission’s office and the destruction of supplies and machinery. Despite this, INEC proceeded with the process and reported on Tuesday that 120,458 new voters had registered in Edo and Ondo states, indicating the success of the CVR.
However, while the extension was welcomed, the Edo APC Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae, expressed to The Newsmen on Wednesday the party’s concerns about the ruling party, PDP, allegedly manipulating the process.
