China has commenced the construction of what is set to become the world’s largest hydropower dam in Tibet. The project has raised serious environmental and geopolitical concerns among neighboring countries, including India and Bangladesh.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang presided over the groundbreaking ceremony over the weekend. While Beijing insists the dam will boost clean energy and local development, critics accuse China of exploiting Tibet’s resources and threatening downstream water security.
