Gana, Baraje, Makarfi in Tight Race for PDP Chairmanship

Stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are reportedly pushing for a consensus approach in selecting a new National Chairman, ahead of the party’s convention slated for November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Front runners include Professor Jerry Gana, former party chairman Kawu Baraje, and former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi.

Meanwhile, acting National Chairman Umar Damagum is said to be working behind the scenes to retain the position substantively.

Some members of the National Executive Committee are calling for credible candidates with proven track records, though opinions are divided over the idea of a consensus candidate.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that poor handling of leadership positions in the South-South and South-East zones could affect the convention’s success.
