The Falconets, Nigeria’s women’s U-20 squad, will play in Group D of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia from August 31 to September 22, where they will compete against the former champions, South Korea, Germany, and Venezuela.
The competition’s draw ceremony was held on Wednesday in Bogota, Colombia, where 24 teams were scheduled to compete for the first time.
Esther Onyenezide’s late goal helped the Nigerians defeat South Korea 1-0 in the 2022 edition’s group stage in Costa Rica. The Falconets finished second in the competition twice (in 2010 and 2014), both times painfully falling short of the Germans.
They play the Korean Republic to start their World Cup adventure. After that, they will play Venezuela and Germany to finish their group stage games. Colombia, Australia, Mexico, and Cameroon are the hosts in Group A. Group B consists of France, Canada, Brazil, and Fiji. Group C consists of Spain, the United States of America, Paraguay, and Morocco; Group E consists of Japan, New Zealand, Ghana, and Austria; while Group F is composed of the Democratic Republic of the Korea, Argentina, Costa Rica, and The Netherlands.
There will be four locations for the matches, spread over three distinct cities (Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali).
